Senior Council Barnstaple Group - Activities
The Barnstaple Senior Council attends the North Devon District Hospital Board meetings and is accorded "in attendance" status in the Minutes. Questions asked cover corporate, clinical and financial issues and we receive full co-operation and written replies which are presented to Senior Council Barnstaple committee. A similar format applies to NHS Devon and NHS South West. Both co-operate fully.
The Barnstaple Senior Council attends Braunton Access Group. This group is a watchdog for disability restricted, sensory impaired and check the infrastructure for hindrance to access and danger spots. Attendance consists of planning officers, police, Devon County Council, District and Parish councillors and the affected members of the public.
We also attend and support "Living Options North Devon Forum" and are pleased to note the mentoring success under the "Time for Life" project , "See and Hear" are also very supportive. Speakers deal with health and care issues.
Another group whose meetings we attend are "Friends of the Library" a Devon County Council Community project for the elderly and incapacitated. Age Concern Barnstaple District service this meeting.
The Barnstaple Senior Council attends the Tarka Rail line support group and is the watchdog for the elderly regarding ramps etc. also covering ease of access on public transport generally.
Regular visits to care homes and domiciliary are carried out in partnership with the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship and the local Probus which our Vice-Chairman also represents as Chairman and Welfare Officer respectively.
We hope this gives you a flavour of activities carried out and, of course, there are many more as reported by the Chairman, Brian Clifton, in the Everyone's Tomorrow Newsletter.
