Annual General Meeting 2011
Once again the Culm Valley AGM took place at the local Bell Inn in Cullompton with members coming from different parts of the valley from Bradninch to Hemyock. A big ‘thank you' and presentation will be given to Tim Butters our retiring Secretary whose skills and energy will be sorely missed, he was unable to be with us on the night due to a family crisis in Belgium requiring his help.
Following our Chair's report, those present discussed future events and activities and it was agreed to provide a budget and skeleton programme in the Spring for members' comment. There will be an Outreach project to reach more over 50s in unrepresented villages. The existing committee will continue with our Chair Ann and a new member has stepped forward, there may be some juggling of roles!
After some excellent refreshments the attendees enjoyed the now traditional skittle match and time to socialise.
Annual General Meeting 2010: This was held on Thursday November 12th in the Bell Inn at Cullompton. Did the ladies get their own back on the men in the skittles match?
Once again it was time for the Culm Valley A.G.M. - but this year on Friday 12th November 2010 unlike last year, no gales, no fallen trees and no power cuts - so members made their way to the Bell Inn.
Thirty members attended and some invited guests from Tiverton, to join in the skittles and fun after the AGM. The committee will all be staying on for another year to support our Chairman Ann McClements, to whom we all gave a special thank you for her untiring efforts in all respects, both locally and with wider Devon commitments. Some new members have agreed to think about joining the committee to share the load. A short question and answers time was held after the main business, to comment about our future, the recent intergenerational conference and the activities and issues people would like to take up in 2011.
We sang for our supper to the tune of "these are a few of my favourite things" the poem below. The evening ended with a jolly skittles match - two random teams and they settled on a draw! The landlord was surprised at the noise older people could make, demonstrating a happy and successful evening.
Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings.
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses.
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.
When the pipes leak, when the bones creak
When the knees go bad.
I simply remember my favourite things ,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions.
Bathrobes and heating pads, hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin'
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin'.
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, when the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim.
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad
