DAWLISH Senior Council has been approached by Daw Vale, a Home for the elderly run by DCC, asking if members could give a few hours a week interacting with the residents in conversation or games.  If you think you can help, please contact Peter Spackman on 01626 891584.  Thank you.

Neighbourhood Planning Front-Runners

The government envisages that there will be groups set up throughout the country to think about future planning for each locality but 17 places have been selected to be Neighbourhood Planning Front-Runners and one of them is DAWLISH.

A steering group has been set up to lead the way forward with representatives from different organizations in the town. Dawlish Senior Council is represented by Dr Geraldine Leach. This group has already organized two seminars and a whole-day workshop so that interested residents could be involved as well as Teignbridge Council planners.  Further steering group meetings and seminars are already arranged.

Dawlish already has a regeneration plan for the town centre and the Lawn under consideration, but the Neighbourhood Planning will be much more far-reaching dealing with such matters as Housing - land availability, housing needs and affordability, traffic concerns, the tourist industry and nature conservation.  It even intends to look up to 20 years into the future, dealing with pressures on services for an older generation, flood risk, any necessary adaptation due to climate change and the reduction in natural resources.

Have you been a victim?

During the winter, the car park owned by Teignbridge outside the Dawlish Community Hospital and Barton surgery, was like an ice-rink.  Dawlish SCfD is campaigning that grit bins be provided.  So far the Barton surgery has indicated that they would be prepared to spread the grit when necessary. However, the hospital has stated that they would have no objection to grit bins but would not take responsibility for spreading the grit.  This has been published in the Dawlish Gazette under the title "Gritting Our Teeth Over the Icy Issue".

However, now Teignbridge Council, which owns and charges for the use of this car park, refuses to accept that it is a special case and classifies it as just part of the main Dawlish Barton Hill Car Park.  To try to convince Teignbridge Council that it is indeed a special case we hope to build up a dossier; SO if you have been involved in an accident or suffered serious difficulties there in the winter of 2009/10 or 2010/11 then please write to me, Peter Spackman, Chairman of Dawlish Senior Council, Cofton Lodge, Cofton Hill, Cockwood, Exeter EX6 8RB.

Thank you.
