Feedback from the Meeting held on the 19th April 2011
A presentation by Linus Wilton of the charity South West Adult Placements (SWAPS) on the work of the charity in Devon and Cornwall. The meeting was also brought up to date on representations being made by the Senior Council for the retention of services at Brunel Lodge, following the announcement of its proposed closure.
Concern was expressed by the membership over the proposed changes to the funding arrangements of the Senior Council by the local authority, and discussion was held as to alternatives sources of funding. The group are keen to promote the organisation and will explore sources of funding to allow a project to produce short information DVDs on the activities of the Newton Abbot Group for distribution in the area
Over the past couple of months Newton Abbot Senior Forum has held two other events. One of these was an Information Day to recruit more members and the other was held to inform individuals, prospective members and other agencies, as well as current members, what the SCfD aims to do for the community and what we can do in our areas in Devon. As a result of the Information Day, there was a clearer understanding by the agencies that attended what work the Senior Council carries out and a desire to inform their own members. This means that we now have to really get down to establishing ourselves as a dynamic and active branch, and get ourselves better known in the area in order to be an effective voice for older people in improving services.
2010
A meeting was held in the Forde Park Nursing Home on Thursday 7th October with the specific purpose of electing and establishing a new committee to run our Branch. We now have new members willing to help and with all our efforts we should be able to get the branch up and running.
