2011
In recent months, we have been working more closely with our colleagues in the Okehampton branch. We have been encouraged by their support and we trust that they also have benefited from this closer collaboration.
There has also been closer working with TaVi (Tavistock and Villages Forum) and the May meeting of TaVi focused on the needs of older people in our community. The June meeting will be held in one of the local villages with the intention of seeking the views of those in more rural areas. A previous meeting had been held with the youth to facilitate inter generational working.
Following the issues raised at the Assembly last December, we have invited responses to the list of social care and health questions which were the subject of concern. With the valuable help of Tim Hall, we secured the inclusion of an article in the local press. Responses have not been overwhelming to date but comments received are nevertheless producing related issues and food for thought.
2010
This was a very interesting and informative session though we would have liked a bigger audience. We are planning to run these sessions on a quarterly basis, and the next will take place in conjunction with the AGM on 9th November at 10.00 am, again at the Anchorage Centre in Tavistock when we hope to have our speaker from the Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS)
We currently have two acting members of the Executive who have been made very welcome. Mike Dennis has replaced Tony Siddall as Acting Vice Chair, and Eric Reynolds has taken over as Acting Treasurer. We were very sorry to say goodbye to Tony, he will be much missed from our group, but we are confident that he will re-appear in another branch of Senior Council!
On 4th September the Tavistock group took part in the Information Fair organised by West Devon Borough Council. This was a successful event, held in Bedford Square on what turned out to be a beautiful warm day. We had many interested visitors to our stand, from which we hope to recruit more members. We are very grateful for the help and support given to us at this event from our colleagues in Okehampton who joined us for the day, and to TASS and WDBC as well.
