During the current year, Branch members have been and still are involved in a series of consultations on changes taking place in the NHS and the likely effect for older people in our area, arrangements for patient participation at different levels in the service and the development of Health Watch in Devon. The Committee has regularly discussed and contributed to Teignbridge District Council's consultations on the improvement of local public services and to their major Core Strategy - the Teignbridge Plan - and Teignbridge Town Council's Community Plan which we hope will be incorporated in the district's Core Strategy, when it is finally approved next year.
We work in partnership with a number of other agencies in the area concerned with the welfare and interests of older people such as the Alice Cross Centre, Volunteering in Health, Teignmouth Community Development Trust, Inverteign Family Learning Centre etc. We are particularly active in the promotion of intergenerational activities in the district in cooperation with 6th Form Enrichment Programme directors at Teignmouth Community School, Inverteign Family and Alice Cross Centres whereby 6th formers and our members are involved in helping older people to understand and use a Laptop Computer, young people, supervised, use the kitchen facilities of the Alice Cross to learn cookery skills and offer members to share the results and offer comments. This takes place one day a week during term time, after which they sometimes join in a game of table tennis, or join in making a greetings card. Also, the young people have taken part with some of our members in producing ideas for the Teignmouth Town Plan and Teignbrige Core Strategy. In fact, we desperately need more older people with IT skills to come forward to help for perhaps one or two hours a week with the - Get Teignmouth on Line programme.
